The Oberbergener Baßgeige vineyard is considered by connoisseurs to be the top vineyard in the Kaiserstuhl region and one of the very best in Germany. Vines, lined up in perfectly straight rows, alternate with old vineyard terraces. It offers a sweeping view down into the vineyards of Oberbergen—which include the “Oberbergener Baßgeige” vineyard—toward the church tower of Oberbergen, and across to the highest peak, the “Totenkopf”—a panorama that epitomizes the wine and the Kaiserstuhl region. This unique view was honored by the German Wine Institute (DWI) as “Baden’s Most Beautiful Wine View 2020” and is thus one of the 13 remarkable vistas in Germany’s wine-growing landscapes.
The local volcanic rock, combined with warm loess-clay soils, provides ideal conditions for top-quality wines. This vineyard, with its many steep, small terraces, along with the dedication of our winemakers, forms the foundation of our wines’ success. Whether delicate Pinot Blancs, robust yet elegant Pinot Gris, juicy and full-bodied Pinot Noirs, or fresh and fruity Müller-Thurgaus—our product range encompasses the entire spectrum of wines, from light-bodied wines to select, top-quality wines that meet international standards.
The Oberbergen Double Bass and the Oberbergen Winegrowers’ Cooperative
Our winegrowers’ cooperative is inextricably linked to the name “Oberbergener Baßgeige.” Today, there are over 400 winegrowing families who lovingly tend to a total vineyard area of more than 350 hectares. Our cellar master, Wolfgang Schupp, and his team are responsible for the winemaking process.
Our newly redesigned barrique and oak barrel cellar, a tasting room, and the wine shop—which is connected to the expansive wine cellars via an underground tunnel—are definitely worth a visit and offer a truly unique wine experience.
The Oberbergen Winegrowers’ Cooperative is the winner of the *2021 Performance Test of German Cooperatives, WEINWIRTSCHAFT (Meininger Verlag). This makes us the best winegrowers’ cooperative in Germany in 2021 and, consequently, the best winegrowers’ cooperative in Baden. This award is a reward and recognition for our tireless work, our dedication, and our enthusiasm. “Hand in Hand” is the guiding principle of our winegrowers’ cooperative; we live by it, and it is the strength of our community.
