Tour Details

When visiting Freiburg Germany there is so much to do: the black forest is nearby, so are Switzerland and Alsace. But you want to consider staying a few days in the city itself and enjoy 900 years of history. If you are travelling with a group you can book most of our tours in English. All of our English-speaking guides are professionally trained and will guide you with enchanting passion. But what if you are not travelling in a large group, how can you learn about the history of the most southern city in Germany?

Freiburg Germany for individual travellers

Freiburg Kultour are offering an open tour for English speaking visitors to our region. From April 2021 we will once again offer guided city walks through the famous Freiburg old town. Starting every Saturday at 12:30pm outside the tourist office the tour will last 90 minutes and cover all the important highlights of the amazing city.

What will I see on a Freiburg Germany open tour?

After welcoming you to Freiburg your guide will introduce the modern Freiburg to you with Key numbers about the city and its people. From there you will go to Gerichtslaube, which is the oldest administrative building in Freiburg. On the way to Freiburg Cathedral you stop at the Walfischhaus, home of Erasmus of Rotterdam during the days of the reformation. The highlight of the Freiburg Germany tour is the cathedral, officially called the Freiburger Münster. After admiring the historic merchant hall and passing through the Konviktstrasse you will finally reach the Schwabentor, one of the two remaining city gates of Freiburg.

You can book your tickets online on this website. If you have questions about this tour please do not hesitate to contact us via email. Additional dates may be available on request.

What to expect

We offer the public city tour of Freiburg during the season every Saturday at 12:30 pm.

Our professional tour guides will tell you the history of Freiburg im Breisgau in a competent and entertaining way. On your way through the old town, we will guide you along the Freiburg Bächle, one of the landmarks of our city.

  • Your public city tour begins in front of the Tourist Information on Rathausplatz. Here you will not only discover why Freiburg has three town halls, but also learn about the history of the city. What is the meaning of the Rhine pebble mosaics that decorate the town hall square and the old town?
  • We pass the “Haus zum Walfisch” and cross the Kajo, Freiburg's main shopping street to Münsterplatz. Admire the most beautiful tower in Christianity with your guide, get to know the building history of the Freiburg Minster and recognize the influence of the Habsburgs when we show you the “Old Kaufhaus” and the “Old Guard”.
  • We continue through the narrow streets of the old town. Almost at the end of your public city tour of Freiburg, we will guide you through what is probably the most beautiful street in the old town: Konviktstrasse.
  • Passing the Schwabentor, we then visit the Gerbeau, part of the craft district, before our tour of the Augustiner Museum ends.
