Alsatian Day Trips cover more than only the three main cities in Alsace, Strasbourg in the north, Colmar in the center and Mulhouse in the south. All three cities can be part of any day trip to the Alsace or stand alone destinations. Strasbourg is the capital of the region, Colmar is the capital of wine making and Mulhouse is the industrial heart of the Alsace.
A day trip to Alsace, France will feature culture, architecture, nature and wine making. From a cultural point of view this region is incredibily rich; having changed hands between Germans and French many times in its history. This is also reflected in the wonderful architecture of houses in the towns and villages. You will find many half-timbered houses bearing witness to their German owners in times long gone. The Alsace is bordered by the Rhine river in the east and the Vosges mountains in the west. The Vosges mountains are opposite of the black forest and very similar in terms of elevation. Beautiful winding roads, quaint villages and breath-taking forests invite you to visit this region. One of the most famous roads is the Alsatian wine road. With a length of 170 km it stretches from South of Strasbourg to the North of Mulhouse. There are 119 wine producing villages in Alsace. Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris are the most important grape varieties.
